Shams Band with Julie Slim: A Tribute to Fairuz and Ziad Rahbani

I am excited to join Shams Band for this very special tribute to an iconic composer, lyricist, playwright, actor, activist, and staunch supporter of Palestine. A voice of the people, he made us laugh when we wanted to cry during the war, and he spoke our anger through his very funny sarcasm infused in his songs. He created a unique Lebanese/jazz fusion that is his signature songs, mixing Arabic maqamat and licks with jazz rhythms and chords.

I was introduced to Ziad Rahbani through his plays, and saw two of them during the civil war: Nazl El-Surur 1974; and Bennesbeh la Bukra Shu, 1978 and fell in love with his plays from the start. They were cathartic in that they reflected the times and the politics of our country with humor and fun music.
